The Story Of Their Sanctuary
Welcome! Exotic Primates are majestic indeed and moreover The Story of Their Sanctuary spans decades! Our Primates are not only privileged to have their sanctuary on the boundary of a Nature Reserve, but in addition to this it also overlooks the Franschhoek Peaks as well as The Helderberg mountains. The world-renowned Wine-lands to the east; and to the south, the picturesque False Bay coast of Our Majestic Mother City and Cape Peninsula.
What’s more, a love for exotic animals of all kinds, has always been the main focus for both of us! Starting out some fifty years back with just one pair of squirrel monkeys, we now feel privileged to have acquired some of the world’s most sought-after and exclusive breeds of ‘New World Primates’ which originate out of The Amazon Rainforest.
Many of our most sought-after breeding pairs have been carefully researched and personally transported from exclusive registered breeders from across central~, and southern Europe. While others had either been rejected by their mothers at birth, or orphaned and/or inherited from other breeders and lovingly fostered, and hand-reared indoors by my wife Alta. Besides her relentless, round-the-clock nurturing efforts, her unwavering dedication and love for these vulnerable primates, had, by the mid ’80’s, resulted in us being the proud owners of some 14 varieties of marmosets and tamarins! This meant we owned of one the largest private collections of rare and endangered New World Primates’ species in the world! Currently, our Exotic Primates collection consists of seven different species.
In addition to our Exotic Primates collection, over the decades, Our Sanctuary has also been home to a capuchin monkey named Benjy. As well as, a little grysbok, a couple of hand-reared Bat-eared foxes! Equally important was a lovely St Bernard dog named George, a couple of Toy Pomeranian pet dogs, and currently a pet Yorkshire terrier named Chucky and lastly, a chatty African Grey Parrot named Coco, as well as an impressive Koi & Discus tropical fish collection.
Enjoy your virtual tour through our hand-selected photo collections showcasing our beloved families of New World Primates comprising a wide variety of Marmosets, Geoffrey’s, and Tamarins including the critically endangered Cottontop Tamarin. All of which we have captured in their custom-built pods surrounded by our lush landscaped tropical garden. Moreover, this was all designed, landscaped & constructed by Colin. His impressive outdoor Aquatics gallery of competition Koi and bespoke indoor aquarium that is home to his exotic Discus fish has also been included in this website, and just for good measure we have added a gallery of some personal photos to showcase our magnificent Mother City, Cape Town, that we feel honoured to call home.
